Purpose of the role

As our client’s business is constantly growing and new supply chains are established, they are looking for a Customs and Global Trade Expert who’s passionate about customs and its impact on opportunities offered to the business. The Customs and Global Trade Expert works closely with other departments and business partners to organize the business supply chain in the most efficient manner to support the company’s interests and that of their suppliers and customers. He/she reports to the Accounting and Tax Manager of the group.


Principal responsibilities 


  • Provide daily support to the logistic department and order handling teams with respect to customs related topics (documentation, customs value, classification, etc.);
  • Communicate changes in customs legislation to the relevant stakeholders within the business;
  • Maintenance of the customs licenses of the group;
  • Monitor customs processes within the group and guide group companies through the AEO process;
  • Prepare and participate in customs audits.
  • Assist and train other departments (e.g. sales and purchase departments) on customs related questions.
  • Collaborate with external auditor at year-end;
  • Collaborate on other customs related projects as they arise.


Process and systems 

  • Develop and improve customs processes and monitor compliance;
  • Contribute in projects: systems, integration of new entities, maintenance of policies and procedures;
  • Drive modernization and efficiency.



  • Work with the logistics and the finance department to establish and monitor the enhancement of goals and objectives.
  • Work with the IT department on customs projects.
  • Guide foreign colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the other internal departments.

Jouw profiel


  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in International Business, Economics or Law, preferably with customs specialization or similar through experience. 



  • 3-5 years of experience in customs matters.
  • Understanding supply chain principles.
  • Experience in project management is a strong asset. 



  • Problem solver who is able to apply the customs and global trade legislation in a pragmatic way;
  • Ability to understand supply chain operations;
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness;
  • Eagerness to learn; actively seeking opportunities for self-development and learning;
  • Team player with strong communication and networking skills (e.g. contacts with other departments, with customs agents, etc.);
  • Demonstrates market and business awareness in a broader context;
  • Ability to work well independently and within deadlines.
  • Being professional and well-organized.


Language skills

  • Fluent knowledge of Dutch and English is required.
  • Other European language skills are considered as an asset.


Other skills

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems / customs tools is an asset.
